Keeping Your Home Fires Roaring Without Wood

We all love the look and feel of a flame burning in the fireplace on a cold winter night ,and we all dread the thought of going out into the frigid temperatures to bring in wood to build that fire.

If you want the beauty of a roaring fire without the work, gas logs may just what your looking for. You simply flip a switch and there is an instant fire. And when you are done, turn the switch off and walk away...no mess and no fuss.

Gas logs are growing in popularity every year, so there are a wide variety of makes and models to fit your need. There are two main types of gas logs: vented and unvented.

Vented gas logs use your existing chimney to vent any carbon monoxide to the outside. These logs produce and yellow colored flame that most closely resembles a wood fire. These gas logs can run on natural gas or propane.

Unvented gas logs produce a blue flame designed to burn at such a high temperature that the fuel nearly completely burns. This produces less output of carbon monoxide and soot. With unvented gas logs, you don't need an existing fireplace. As a safety precaution, unvented gas logs are equipped with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) designed to turn off the gas before carbon monoxide reaches a dangerous level.
